11:00am flight to Denmark, which was made a little brutal from remnants of the night before. Train to Copenhagen’s central station, then a short walk to my hotel. It’s nothing special, average European hole in the wall, made all the more painful by the fact it was running me three times what the Marriott had. First impression of Copenhagen is that it’s not particularly beautiful to look at. Sure it’s old, but compared to the architecture of Amsterdam and other capitals its rather uninspired. But it’s incredibly hip. The people, which are in overall great shape and pretty attractive, are extremely stylish. The shops and boutiques that line the old streets, mainly clothing and design stores, are incredibly cool. Its like NoLita, on a much grander scale. The people are all friendly, and happy to suggest other spots to go, all equally endearing. Unfortunately, it’s crazy expensive. Steaks at run of the mill restaurants are the equivalent of fifty bucks. Beers are eight dollars anywhere. Yet everyone seems to live very well. I also went to one of the most unique places I’ve ever experienced, the “free state” of Christiania. It’s a hippy commune based in an old army barracks that has created its own independent society. They’ve built small colorful homes along the canal, schools and playgrounds for their children, and theatres where they stage shows. There’s a bar/restaurant area in the middle where they take turns cooking, and marijuana and hash are sold and smoked openly in an area called “pusher street.” I’d write more about it, but I’m eager to see what Copenhagen nightlife has in store. It really was fascinating thought, Wikipedia it or something. The Porsche is being delivered at 10:00am tomorrow, so the next dispatch will be from the road
